2026 Water Update
Dear Westland Patrons,
2025 was a great water year and we ended up with about 1,200 AF carryover, however 2026 is looking like it is not going to be so great. In December 2025 there was plenty of snow in the hills and rain down low making it look like we were on track for another great water year. Then came warm weather and rain up in the mountains which led to high runoff and flows in the river. Right now, there is little snow pack with little snow and precipitation in the future. The reservoir is at 49% full and not filling very fast. The Bureau of Reclamation is forecasting a fill of 67% for the 2026 water year. Keep in mind this is just a forecast and it can move either direction. There is a possibility Westland could be on McKay stored water in April or early May which would make for a very short water year. McKay allotments could be cut in half or worse this year.
Always remember to call the Ditch Rider to order water 24 hours in advance. The more we can conserve water this year will help lengthen the season especially on a forecasted short water year. Allotment cards will be sent out when we know.
